Emotional Freedom Techniques, also known as EFT or Meridian Tapping, melds Eastern acupuncture and Western psychology. Gentle tapping on specific traditional acupuncture points on the face and body is combined with focusing on and verbalizing a challenging issue, memory, or emotion.

EFT has been shown to produce positive changes in the encouragement of neuroplasticity, as counter-conditioned memories are turned into new neural bundles. The memory remains, but the emotional association disappears, and the cognitive experience of the memory shifts. Within the brain, EFT appears to affect the amygdala (the stress centre in the brain) and the hippocampus (the memory centre). Both play a role in the decision process when an outside event appears to be a threat.
EFT has also been shown to lower the primary stress hormone, cortisol. This result is deeply beneficial, as too much cortisol can result in lowered immune function, weight gain and overall health challenges.
