No, you may schedule a consultation directly. However, it is important that your symptoms have already been evaluated by a physician and/or medical specialist. Your general practitioner remains your primary healthcare provider. Our services are complementary to conventional medical care and should never be considered a replacement for medical evaluation, diagnosis, or treatment.
We regularly receive referrals from general practitioners and specialists, but a referral is not required. If you are referred, communication with your physician can be arranged with your written consent.
Functional Medicine is currently not covered by Dutch health insurance providers. In some cases, costs may be tax-deductible as extraordinary healthcare expenses. Please consult your tax advisor for further details.
Depending on your individual situation, you may encounter the following cost components:
• Consultations at DNA Care
• Laboratory testing (paid directly to the laboratory)
• Interpretation and analysis time for in-depth test results (see fee schedule)
• Optional: supplements or herbal medicine, based on the therapeutic plan developed within the framework of Functional Medicine. These may be purchased independently through external suppliers.
Yes. Potential interactions between medication, supplements, and herbal products are carefully assessed. DNA Care collaborates with a pharmacist specialised in pharmacogenetics. If needed, and with your written consent, we may also coordinate with your prescribing physician.
Support may not be appropriate in the following cases:
• Severe psychiatric conditions or acute psychological crises
• Use of medication that prevents safe complementary care over time
• Situations in which lifestyle or dietary changes are medically or psychologically contraindicated
• Diagnoses that fall outside the scope or expertise of DNA Care (this is discussed in advance)
No. Recovery depends on many factors, including the nature and severity of your condition, your capacity for healing, and the extent to which recommendations can be followed. While many clients do experience improvement, no outcome can or may be guaranteed.
Support may be discontinued in the following situations:
• Your request for help no longer falls within our scope or professional responsibilities
• There are circumstances that prevent safe or effective support
• There is insufficient ability or willingness to implement recommendations
• A constructive working relationship is no longer possible
• The emotional, physical, or practical burden becomes too great to continue responsibly
In all cases, termination will be handled carefully and respectfully, with advice on appropriate next steps or referral to another qualified practitioner, if needed.
If a consultation must be cancelled due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances on our part, you will be informed as soon as possible and offered the opportunity to reschedule. In the event of prolonged unavailability, you may — if you wish — be referred to a qualified colleague. Your file will only be shared following your written consent and will be transferred with care and confidentiality.
